They took a knee as the national anthem played, to peacefully protest the continued mistreatment and abuse of Black people in America. Activists tried to raise public consciousness as fatal shootings of young Black men and women by police officers continued to increase. They chanted "Black Lives Matter" when perpetrators were acquitted and when justice remained unserved. They took to the streets when George Floyd died as he struggled to breathe under the knee of a police officer. As the history of racism against Black Americans became better known, millions of people around the world are marching and speaking out
in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Peaceful activism is igniting our collective conscience.
